2 arrested after knife, hammer assaults

Two 21-year-old men were arrested Monday after a man was stabbed in the shoulder and a teen girl was hit in the neck with the handle of a hammer.

Police say Cousteau C. Wright started a fight with a 20-year-old man at a home in the 4700 block of North Progress Road about 4 p.m. before calling John P. Ledoux for help.

Wright stabbed the man in the upper left shoulder with a large knife; Ledoux hit a 17-year-old girl in the throat with the handle of a hammer, Spokane Valley police said.

Wright and Ledoux led in separate cars, but a school resource officer spotted them on Upriver Drive, drew his gun on them and held them until backup arrived. Wright faces a charge of first-degree assault, Ledoux was booked on a second-degree assault charge.

The men are due in Superior Court this afternoon via video feed from the jail.
