Press misses cop kudos

The Spokesman-Review

It was truly enlightening to watch the Spokane Police Department’s awards ceremony at City Hall. Officers were given medals for saving lives; departments were lauded for progressive methods of dealing with the massive amount of record keeping and gang issues. Individuals were acknowledged for work they had performed far beyond their job description.

I gained an entirely different perspective on the effort that is required to keep Spokane a safe place to live. I was not surprised, however, to notice the lack of any press coverage. Perhaps it is not newsworthy to give credit to the SPD for all the good they do daily. No wonder the chief, who has done an incredible job since coming here, may be looking for other employment.

Hopefully she will stay, but if she does relocate, I would hope she would never again have to deal with a columnist like Doug Clark.
