Protest reflects diversity

The Spokesman-Review

I wonder if Pete Scobby (Letters, April 24) was even at the tea party rally in Spokane. I was at the rally, and I’m one of the “people of color” he claims are absent from the tea party protests. I don’t know where he was looking, but I saw plenty of “people of color” at the event.

It’s racist to think someone has to be white in order to be upset about their taxes. It sounds like he’s saying that only white people make enough money to grumble about taxes and that we poor “people of color” are dependent on government handouts paid for by rich white people.

I am the grandson of immigrants to this country and I worked hard for my money. I don’t want it taken away by the government any more than the “selfish old white people” Mr. Scobby mentioned.
