School move unnecessary

The Spokesman-Review

Will moving Jefferson Elementary School down the street improve student safety? Were you aware that the original front of Jefferson faced away from Grand? If Jefferson was designed with the front facing away from the street, a turn-in driveway for parent drop-off would place children out of harm’s way.

Students who live east of Grand have to cross Grand no matter where the school is located. Moving it will not solve this safety issue. Parents who currently jaywalk with their children from the Albertsons parking lot will continue to do so down the street, because there is even less parking available on the west end.

Almost all the intersections on the west end are uncontrolled, putting more students in danger with severely increased traffic from the cars and buses transporting students to school. Leave Jefferson where it is and create a safer drop-off and pick-up area.
