Owner, not pet, is problem
Ten thousand unwanted dogs and cats die daily in America’s animal shelters. Publishing an article giving the impression most animals are difficult to care for is very irresponsible (“Pestered by pets,” April 24).
Most “problems” owners have with pets are usually caused by lack of knowledge, not making the animal the “pest,” but rather the person. Cat wants in, cat wants out – heaven forbid! Cat has to go to the bathroom! So do we; difference is we have opposable thumbs to let ourselves out. Animals going in and out bothers you? Get a pet door. Better yet, don’t have pets if small things bother you. Spare them the heartache.
Printing the phrase “I wanted to throw him off a bridge for nearly a year,” regarding a rescued dog off the street, more than likely abused in his past, was unfathomable. Think he was scared out of his mind?
Try making the statement “I wanted to throw my child off a bridge,” and you would be prosecuted. Bad enough we kill our unwanted animals by the millions; do not add to their plight by printing comments making their lives even more difficult.
