The story about the Athol woman whose dog was poisoned makes me shake my head in wonder.

To hear that Idaho is one of only four states in our civilized, modern-day nation that still only recognizes animal cruelty as a misdemeanor is embarrassing. To hear that this man was allowed to beat her dogs and walk away without consequence is embarrassing. To hear that his own words (saying he was going to kill her dogs) aren’t enough evidence to charge him with the poisoning death is embarrassing.

To be honest, I am more outraged than embarrassed, and I want Idaho to know that this is one of the many reasons I had to move across the border eight years ago. I could no longer bear to be part of a “Third-World-mentality” state.
