Stage set for profiling

The Spokesman-Review

With the Arizona Senate Bill 1070 recently passed, you better make sure you have your papers with you if you are planning on going to Arizona. With this bill, law enforcement can now stop anyone and ask for his or her papers for proof that they are lawfully in the U.S. if there is “reasonable suspicion” that they are an illegal immigrant.

So, if you are a Mexican-American living in Arizona, you better get ready to get stopped and asked for identification, and if you don’t have anything that proves you are there legally, you might just get detained until you can prove you are. I believe, along with many others, that the bill will be used to racially profile, especially Latinos.

Yes, America does need to change its policy on immigration, but I think the law takes it a few steps too far.
