Park cutbacks unacceptable

I was incredibly disappointed to learn our elected officials have chosen not to fund water and garbage services for seven of our Spokane County parks. In a world where one in three kids are overweight or obese, is it really wise to take away one of the last places they can go that doesn’t require batteries or a remote control to have fun?

I live in one of the neighborhoods where we will be losing services. On any given evening you might see a soccer/T-ball/baseball or football practice and dozens of kids coming and going. It’s appalling with the property taxes we pay that the county cannot sustain this basic service. Neighbors are scrambling to raise funds to get the water turned on and the garbage picked up so that our kids might have a fountain to get a drink from and green grass to play on. I contributed to this fund, but it should never have come to this.

Something needs to change. Should we start with our elected officials? Speak up, Spokane. Call your county commissioners and let them know it is not OK to take away this basic public service from our kids and community.
