Author Terry Tempest Williams in Spokane today

Paul Dillon

Just a reminder: Author Terry Tempest Williams will speak at a luncheon at noon to benefit the Inland Northwest Land Trust at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N Lincoln. Williams will discuss her books while emphasizing stories of the land. A Utah native, she opens her readers’ eyes to their ties to the land, community and family. At the heart of all her work – as writer, naturalist and advocate for wild and open spaces – the theme is restoration: restoring our connection to the land, to the sacred, and to each other. The talk is called “In Land We Trust: Why the Land Trust Movement is Visionary”, with a reading from her latest The Open Space of Democracy .

We’re lucky to have Williams in Spokane. She has served time in jail for acts of civil disobedience, testified before Congress on women’s health issues, been a guest at the White House, has camped in the remote regions of Utah and Alaska wildernesses and worked as “a barefoot artist” in Rwanda. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Orion Magazine – check the next issue of Orion Late where you’ll read a 14,000 first-hand account of the BP oil spill, called “The Gulf Between Us.” Check her interview with Democracy Now here .

Admission is $45 in advance and $50 at the door.
