Bike lanes a waste

After reading Michael Wiman’s letter, “Silly Street spending,” Nov. 4, I say, bravo! Where do these people come up with these ideas to waste taxpayer dollars?

Bicycle lanes in downtown Spokane? What are they thinking? Let the University District spend their own money on “The Division Gateways Corridor.” The mayor is going to lay off police and firemen for lack of funds, so what will these special-interest advocates want next? If Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick and Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich could ever get their officers to do their jobs and write tickets (what ever happened to traffic cops?), they would never have to lay anyone off, and they all could even have a nice pay raise.

Why not raise the fine of talking on a cell phone while driving to $500? How about those pretentious bicycle riders with their yellow Tour de France shirts on who run every stop sign or red signal and then if you blow your horn at them, they flip you off (they must think they’re on a closed course)? A $500 fine for them, too!

But wait, the cops are just too busy talking on their cell phone to notice or pay attention. Sad isn’t it?
