Get cargo on track
Sunday’s article on the Columbia/Snake River shipping closure was interesting in not mentioning once the possibility of railroad haulage replacing the barges. For instance: 480 trucks will be needed to haul the contents of one 14,000-ton fuel barge tow. That translates to just two 70-car freight trains. Much less congestion and wear on the highways, as well as less pollution and fuel usage.
