Governing isn’t a priority

If there is anything you can count on columnist Charles Krauthammer for, it’s that he can’t be depended on to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

In the last two years (unlike in other decades) the congressional Republicans merely engaged in obstructionist politics. Absolutely not were they going to cooperate and actually help govern a nation going through truly tough times. And then whine about that “party line vote” that Krauthammer sees fit to hammer the Democrats over on a number of different legislative acts (“ ‘Wave’ just a return to norm,” Nov. 6). The “Democrats shut us out,” the GOP sniffed and waxed fake outrage over. Only because the GOP wanted it that way.

But it seems to me that Tim Rutten has a better handle on what the Republican Party really wants to do (“Explaining the stalemate to voters,” Nov. 6). That is actually not to do anything on the behalf of the voters, continue their obstructionist politics and try to defeat Obama by 2012. But, how is that supposed to help the jobs and overall economic picture? It will not. So, who is behaving arrogantly and just doesn’t get it? Krauthammer.
