Character is top priority
During my recent primary campaign, an unexpected lesson came in the realization that people were not as concerned with a candidate’s position on issues as they were with a candidate’s character. Principles, integrity and ethics matter. We all want a leader who gives us reason to extend our trust.
As the importance of candidate character became clear, I began to measure which candidates had personality traits consistent with what so many believed to be indicators of quality character. Strength, modesty, ability to speak plainly, grace under fire, a sense of fair play, honesty, a strong work ethic and a solid moral base were all commonly discussed.
Looking toward Lincoln County candidates, it is political newcomer Garry Rosman that strikes me as a man of quality character having that rare ability to gracefully make a principled decision in the face of controversy. Garry has mastered the art of statesmanship. Add a statesman’s skill to Garry’s ability to really listen, and quality of character is clearly found.
In matters of principle, integrity and ethics, Garry Rosman measures up with the best. Lincoln County has a quality candidate for county commissioner.
