GOP loyalty costly

Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers left a phone message asking for my vote and mentioning how concerned she was with Washington’s uncontrolled spending and that she favored a balanced budget amendment.

The message didn’t ring true when you consider during the 110th Congress, McMorris Rodgers has a 95.1 voting record along Republican Party lines and of supporting President George W. Bush’s bankrupt policies.

When President George W. Bush took office he inherited a balanced budget and a $238 billion surplus, and Congress was controlled by the Republicans. The federal debt increased from $5.6 trillion to $10.6 trillion during Bush’s term in office, largely because of an unfunded tax cut ($2 trillion) unfunded Medicare program, (Part D of Medicare, $1 trillion) and two unfunded wars, all passed by the Republican-controlled Congress.

President Obama inherited a $1.2 trillion deficit for his first year in office, and a country so bankrupt that out of every dollar the government spends, 41 percent has to be borrowed, largely from the Chinese.

The American people can’t afford the Republican policies that have bankrupted our country and enriched the wealthy and corporations. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has voted for these Republican policies (95.1 percent of the time).
