System handicaps nominee

Hurricanes and oil spills have given us the deepest sympathy for Louisiana. Louisiana, the state that gives us swamps, snakes, crocodiles and low education standards, has now given us their primary system.

The Washington state courts OK’d the Louisiana primary for our state. Every sane voter asks: Why? Now, two candidates from the same party can run against one another in the general election.

Also, the party nominates a candidate who may now be the choice of the rank and file party members.

In Spokane, many party regulars, including myself, support Daryl Romeyn, who was not the party’s endorsed candidate. Even though he won the primary – on no money – he is not eligible for party funds. Go figure.

Well, rank-and-file Democrats will continue to support him. He’s a fresh face in politics and a good man.
