Fault lies with bin Laden

The attack on the World Trade Center had nothing to do with Islam, because Islam as a religion did not attack. This unfortunate attack was carried out by Osama bin Laden of al-Qaida for political reasons. The educated and informed Muslims condemn this attack, as Islam prohibits suicide and killing of innocent people for any purpose.

Islam is the closest religion to Christianity and Judaism. Besides believing in one God, we also believe that Christianity and Judaism are divine religions. Abraham, Moses and Jesus are some of our prophets.

When Timothy McVeigh, a U.S.-born Christian, attacked the federal building in Oklahoma City, his religion was not judged the same way.

Certain media, including radio talk show hosts, are spreading hatred against Islam and Muslims. This is causing attacks on many innocent Muslims. The rationale that Saudi Arabia does not allow any churches is wrong, just as the Vatican does not allow any synagogues. Both are religious states. There are churches and synagogues in predominantly Muslim countries including Iraq, Turkey, Dubai, Pakistan, Indonesia and Bangladesh.

We have nothing to fear from Islam and its followers. Most Muslims are peaceful citizens and love this country. This includes this writer.
