Tuesday mornings are never overflowing with new and notes as most every team is getting over its weekend-game hangover. Today is a little unusual as there are some things to link, so read on.

• Washington State: We took our first look at Montana State this morning. … Christian Caple has this blog post in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News looking back at the defeat. … We missed this yesterday, but here is a look back at the Bobcats first game. As an aside, if you think the WSU-UW rivalry is intense – and it is – then you’ve never been in Montana. The Grizzlies and Bobcats dislike each other so much, there are signs on each on-campus door is Bozeman that feature a picture of the UM Grizzly, with a circle around it and slash through it, and the words “No Grizzlies Allowed” underneath. … That’s about it for this morning, though I will pass on Cougfan reported yesterday another commitment for next season, WSU’s 14th, defensive tackle T.J. Poloai from Burbank High near Sacramento.

• Around the Pac-10: The last few seasons the conference’s defenses have been outstanding. The first game of this season, not so much … looking back at the week that was in the Pac-10. … The same thing here . … Washington: The Huskies’ special teams let them down against BYU, so there will be a few changes . … Another area of concern was the offensive line. Changes might be coming there as well. … After an unbroken string of recruiting success, UW finally lost one, as quarterback Brett Hundley committed to UCLA. … Oregon State: The Beavers have a bye this week. … Oregon: Register-Guard columnist George Schroeder has relatives in Tennessee. He’s already there and has sampled the food, drinks and hatred for Lane Kiffin. … Knoxville isn’t a welcoming place for visiting teams. … The Oregon d-line has a bulldog for a coach. … Cal: Who shined for the Bears. … Stanford: The Cardinal’s grades for the week. … USC: With a new coach and a new outlook, this isn’t the same Virginia squad the Trojans played a couple years ago. … UCLA: The first conference test of the season pits the Bruins vs. Stanford. … Arizona State: Maybe this is why Steven Threet won the starting job. The Sun Devils’ quarterback is expected to run a little bit now. … Arizona: Now this is scheduling. First Toledo and now the Citadel, an FCS school. The Wildcats are still leery .
