Luna’s credentials slighted

Betsy Russell’s recent article about the race for superintendent of public instruction in Idaho referred to Superintendent Tom Luna as a “college dropout” who “worked for a weights and measurements company.” In fact, Luna has earned his bachelor’s degree, and was the OWNER of a highly successful company – he bought the company when he was in his 20s.

Should we consider every person that takes time off a “college dropout”? Is someone that takes a semester off to earn money to go to school a college dropout? Who takes time off to support a family? I always find it interesting how elitist journalists spin a situation to make the article meatier. The facts that you should take from this article are:

A. Superintendent Tom Luna had the drive and passion for education to go back to school and earn his bachelor’s degree.

B. He has taken our current education system to new heights in the last four years with great results in student achievement.

C. Other states are viewing Idaho with envy from the successes that have been made.

Remember to vote for Superintendent Luna this November, and try to filter through the impending misleading articles until then.
