Here’s one vote for Sen. John Blutarsky
This is always a tough time of the year for films fans. It’s when the dregs of the summer season are still mired in area theaters, and nothing much that’s good is worth a $10 ticket. So imagine the plight of the poor movie blogger. What is there to write about?
Going to watch something as confounding as the AMC Select film “Wild Grass” ? Please. I’ve seen Cronenberg and Lynch films that made more sense.
Watching something on my television’s On Demand service such as “Cairo Time” ? Again, please. If I wanted maudlin, middle-age romance I’d … well, I for one don’t want that. And if I did, I’d want it to include an exploding car or two. Bring back “Romancing the Stone.”
Which may be one reason why, for “Movies 101,” we decided to rewatch “National Lampoon’s Animal House.” While one of our number didn’t like the movie — there’s no accounting for taste, you know — I loved rewatching the adventures of the Delta House frat boys. I was attending the University of Oregon when it was filmed, and I later worked in the town of Cottage Grove, Ore ., where the parade scene was shot.
And I, too, have always been able to relate to the line, “There goes seven years of college down the drain.” Took me 10 years to get my B.A. Just saying.
Please let the fall movie season start sooooooooon.
Below : Once again, a return to Faber College and the great John Belushi.
