Mosque an ‘affront’
I contend that the argument of where to put the mosque in New York City has not so much to do with freedom of religion as it has to do with respect and compassion.
We Americans tend to treat the Twin Towers site as hallowed ground. Our sensibilities have been affronted when Muslims want to build their religious center near the site where the terrorist faction of their religion are responsible for the horrendous act of destruction. It seems to me that if the Muslim faith is a religion of peace and love, why have we not heard denouncement of the terrorist acts from the Muslim religious leaders? Where is their respect and compassion for the feelings of the Americans who strongly object to the building of the mosque at this particular site?
