Looked for a mailbox lately? You know, the big, blue metal receptacles that used to stand on every street corner in every town in America? Best of luck with that. According to National Public Radio, the number of U.S. Postal Service mailboxes fell below 200,000 nationwide in 2008 and continues to decline at a rate of about 4,000 a year. The calculus is simple: The less mail — because of e-mail, faxes, texts, tweets, UPS and Fed Ex — the fewer mailboxes.
