Congressman Walt Minnick has built a reputation during his first term in office as a man who can work cooperatively with people from both sides of the political aisle. Polls show him with a healthy lead over challenger Raul Labrador for his 1st Congressional District seat — pretty impressive for a Democrat in one of the country’s most conservative states. That’s why it’s such a surprise — and disappointment — to see his latest TV campaign ad. The ad portrays Labrador as being giddy about making good money by helping illegal immigrants break the law — “helping illegal immigrants stay in the United States” is the exact phrasing.
