April 1 just another day at WSU
COUGARS
Yes it is April Fool’s Day. But we learned long ago not to mess with AFD jokes in print (they have a tendency to backfire, at least they did in my early journalism years), and we will follow over on this post as well. We’ll keep it straightforward. Heck, there’s enough to laugh at out there without having to make stuff up. Read on.

• Washington State: We got back in town yesterday a little too late to make it to WSU’s spring football practice, so we don’t have anything for you there. We’ll be at the Cougars’ scrimmage this Saturday, their first official one of the spring under NCAA rules. … Basketball coach Ken Bone will hold an end-of-the-year press conference this morning and we expect to have a story out of that, though I’m pretty sure there won’t be any Klay Thompson or DeAngelo Casto news. … We found one story , on a Hazen High senior who expects to walk on to the football team in the fall.

• Around the Pac-12: Media rights negotiations begin with everyone today (Fox held a window for solo negotiations until now) so the Associated Press looked at what might happen . … CougCenter found a .pdf of the Pac-12 basketball schedule for next season and has some thoughts on it. Though this was released to the schools a while ago, there is a chance some of these dates could be adjusted for television. Also, the future is still up in the air due to the television negotiations. WSU athletic director Bill Moos recently told me the conference is committed to staying with travel partners and playing the usual two-game road swings (or homestands) instead of playing a wide-open schedule like the ACC or others. But conference games could be played on just about every day. … Washington: The big news yesterday was Isaiah Thomas’ announcement. Steve Kelley thinks he’s making a big mistake . … Venoy Overton gets a second chance on his big mistake. … Oregon State: Nothing here. … Oregon: Lots here, including a battle for center that includes a familiar name . Yes, that’s Nico’s younger brother. … The CBI final game is set for tonight (fixed from earlier). Think these two teams know each other well now? Colorado: A look at the change for the Buffs quarterback. … Utah: A long-time fan, and inspiration , passes away. … California: Nothing here. … Stanford: Same with the Cardinal. … USC: Matt Barkley is ready for his junior year. … UCLA: The injury bug strikes the Bruins. … Arizona State: But it really bites the Sun Devils hard, as they lose a receiver. … Arizona: Some more basketball news.
