Unfriend Gadhafi, quick
Rudy Pena (Letters, March 27) wrote, “There were no U.N. sanctions against (Libya). He has been a ‘friend’ of the U.S. for over three decades.”
Gadhafi supported terrorists responsible for the Lockerbie bombing. He was such a good friend the past 30 years Reagan fired cruise missiles in 1986 in a failed assassination attempt. No program to acquire WMDs? Google “Gadhafi surrenders WMDs, December 2003.” Moammar was also behind the bombing of a German discotheque, killing U.S. servicemen, and bringing down UTA Flight 772.
Moammar is such a good friend of the world France and England lead this attack to create a no-fly zone similar to the one George H. W. Bush created over Iraq, under U.N. authorization. If Moammar hadn’t inked contracts with Conoco and other Houston companies, Texas oilmen might have convinced Bush to add Libya to his “Axis of Evil.”
Obama is not finishing Reagan’s job. All we seek is a fighting chance. Democratic reform is up to Libyans, not us. How far would our revolution have gone without France’s help two centuries ago? Should the rebels prevail, maybe France’s Statue of Liberty will some day sport another twin on the Barbary Coast.
