WSU returns to practice today

COUGARS

It should have been a quiet morning, a real quiet morning. But there is more to read than we ever expected. Plus, there is a smattering of snow on the ground outside, which will probably be gone by the time we finish writing this post, so read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: No football practice yesterday and no word on any possible basketball decisions, so it seemed like today would be dry. Until we found this John Blanchette track notebook on former Cougar football player Daniel Blackledge (he finished in the fall, so I guess it’s OK to call him a “former”) back on the track. … CougCenter yesterday took a look at the offense this spring. … Other than that, and some stories behind pay walls I can’t link, that’s about it. The Cougars are back on the practice field this afternoon.

• Around the Pac-12: Someone asked yesterday if we could travel on the team charters with basketball if the conference went to single games. The simple answer is no, because of a couple reasons. One is ethical concerns due to the decreased cost not being available to everyone. But the more mundane problem is, when teams have charters, they leave right after games. That doesn’t work for sportswriters who have to write their stories. They need an hour or two. … Washington: Nothing. … Oregon State: Former Beaver Steven Jackson returns to Corvallis and fires up the team after spring practice. … Oregon: The Ducks have a handful of new players who will make an impact . …  Though Oregon has no more scholarships, basketball coach Dana Altman is still looking . … Colorado: Guard Alec Burks sets a deadline for himself and the NBA draft. … Utah: The Utes are looking for a backup quarterback – and may have found him. … California: Nothing here. … Stanford: The Cardinal hoop team may lose its best scorer. … USC: Nada. … UCLA: Same. … Arizona State: The Sun Devils pick up three more football commitments from the same Southern California high school. That makes four from Long Beach Poly this week. … Arizona: Position changes are common in the spring, but this poor Wildcat is on his third.

• That’s all for now. We’ll be back this evening after football and earlier if events warrant. Until then …
