Will grant make a difference?
I congratulate Rogers High School on their receipt of the $4 million grant. I have questions about this grant, including:
How can students be convinced high school is relevant when a constant theme is, “You must go to college”?
How will students see the advantages of college when a steady drumbeat is, “My student loans are crushing”?
How will students understand that hard studying will get you in college but catching a pointed ball will get you in without studying?
How will students be convinced that college is important, given the question from graduates, “Would you like fries with that?”
Also, who will pay the required new hires when the grant runs out?
And, will Rogers teachers be smarter and teach better when offered a bonus for doing what they are paid to do now?
