Jail waste showcased

Wasn’t it great to see that after spending millions of taxpayer dollars on experts, consultants, siting processes and projects (not to mention, well over $100,000 on pro-jail PR man Toby Hatley), our “conservative?” county commissioners, Richard, Mielke and French, called a press conference to confess they “have not done their due diligence” regarding the sheriff’s burning desire for a new jail.

They are canceling their proposed ballot measure of $200 million to “sharpen their pencil” yet again! It will take more than a sharp pencil to sell us this boondoggle.

I want to see some real leadership! Instead of wasting millions on a new jail let’s pay for what has been proven to work and stop the revolving door of crime. Let them show us they have invested in futures not failures by fully funding the mental health, drug, veterans, domestic violence and other proven methods?

They should also show some common sense and reselect the county campus where the study showed it should be – close to courts, prosecutors and needed services.

Until then, we the people should follow Nancy Reagan’s advice and just say “No”!
