Beware drilling method

I hope all Idaho voters know what fracking really entails before they let their Legislature permit it (“Idaho sets rules for gas drilling,” April 20).

They should know how poisonous those chemicals are before they trust the gas companies to safeguard them and their land. (Exxon and BP anyone?) They should know how much of their water supply will be taken from farms, ranches and towns for use in fracking. They should know about the many terrible problems people have experienced where fracking is permitted, including one which occurred just Tuesday night when a natural gas well in Pennsylvania blew out as crews were “fracking.”

It would be a real public service if The Spokesman-Review could do an informative series. We haven’t experienced hydraulic fracturing in the West and may not realize how damaging it can be.
