Rain can’t quell the need … for speed!

It’s still raining as I type this, giving credence to the notion that we skipped spring and summer and sent straight to fall. But inside a movie theater, it’s always the same temperature — more or less.

Which is fine for moviegoers, especially those who like action. The first of the so-called summer season’s big action films, “Fast Five,” opens on Friday. But for those into retro, two screenings of “Top Gun” (12:30 Saturday, 7 p.m. Monday) will show at AMC’s River Park Square Theatres.

Based on the trailers, “Fast Five” should be filled with what all good summer action requires: fast cars, terse dialogue, shapely women, plentry of fistfights and a good dose of things blowing up real good.

But other stuff will be available, too. “Hoodwinked Too!” an animated version of Red Riding Hood, is for the kids. Foreign-language fans will enjoy the French production “Of Gods and Men.” While teenagers and graphic-novels fans may like “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night” and “Prom.”

Meanwhile, the dour Norwegian comedy-noir “A Somewhat Gentle Man” opens at the Magic Lantern. The film, which played at the last Spokane International Film Festival, gives new meaning to the term downbeat humor.

Happy viewing.
