Give hyperbole a rest

I’m responding to a recent letter by Melissa Rose, railing against Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers. Her letter contains the usual tired talking points. Yeah, yeah, we get it. Republicans are the cause of the bad economy, want to destroy the country, blah, blah, blah; reckless endangerment, blah, blah; big oil, blah. Yawn.

It’s clear she doesn’t know many Republicans and she especially doesn’t know the congresswoman. Republicans don’t believe in government creating jobs, so that’s never been our goal. But when the president spends a trillion dollars and specifically promises results in the job market, it’s fair to ask questions.

Further, no one has ever advocated that the budget be “balanced solely on the backs of the elderly, middle class and the poor,” nor that we “destroy the country.” Let’s give the hyperbole a rest.

As a small-business owner trying to grow and create more jobs myself, I’m grateful to be represented by Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers.
