Low taxes pay off

I appreciated Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers’ stand on the debt ceiling negotiations. Serious cuts in government spending and fundamental budget reform are required if we are going to solve this problem. No more short-term fixes.

Let’s take responsibility now and not burden future generations with these issues. Federal government spending is out of control and it’s time to rein it in. The president is wrong to promote class warfare by insisting on a job-killing tax increase. The wealthiest 1 percent of Americans pays more than 40 percent of federal income taxes, more than the bottom 95 percent of all taxpayers pay; and the wealthiest 5 percent pays more than 65 percent of federal income taxes.

Our combined federal and state corporate tax rate is the highest in the world, making the U.S. uncompetitive in the global economy. John F. Kennedy said, “In short, it is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now.”

That is as true today as it was then. I agree with Cathy, we can’t spend, tax and borrow our way to prosperity.
