Hession a rare leader

Dennis Hession is the best choice for City Council president. More than anyone else, Hession has the ability to give the City Council essential leadership and direction.

While our various councils have had a history of healthy diversity, the varying viewpoints and agendas can lead to fragmentation and lack of cohesion and common purpose. It is a challenging job to steer the council toward unity of direction in our best interests.

Hession is driven to strive for optimal solutions. For Hession, weak compromises are not acceptable, the politically safe but ineffective is an opportunity squandered, and inaction is failure. Importantly, he has the political courage to apply these standards of high achievement rigorously and consistently.

He also has the vital experience necessary to succeed. He knows the council as an institution and grasps its legislative mission. He knows the political landscapes of all three council districts, and he is considerate of all viewpoints.

As a former mayor, his understanding of the city’s executive branch is unequaled, and he brings healthy bridge-building skills between the two branches of city government.

Hession will be an outstanding leader in a key leadership role, and Spokane will be better for it.
