Faith endorsements valued
I served on the “We Believe – We Vote” coalition, and I would like to respond to James McPherson’s disparaging comments (Aug. 13 letters).
People who have faith in God, not government, are interested in supporting candidates who understand the value of life, marriage and family, limited government, lower taxes, personal responsibility and individual freedom as our nation’s founders envisioned.
McPherson thought our survey was misleading, but if he had checked further on the website (www.webelievewevote.com) he would have found not only the criteria that we use to evaluate each candidate, but also our comments about where the candidate stands on these important areas of society and our culture.
Thousands of voters in Spokane rely on the results of our many hours of research.
Additionally, the broad survey questions are aimed at understanding a candidate’s world view, which will affect his or her policy decisions.
For instance, we understand that most local officials will not decide whether late-term abortion should be illegal, but if they value the principle of sanctity of life they will not vote to award taxpayer funds to local clinics that perform abortions.
This is a worthy service to the faith/conservative community, which values our voter recommendations.
