A late Tuesday morning post

COUGARS

We’re quite a bit later than usual today but life has a strange way of intervening occasionally. But we have a chance to sit and cover the day’s news and note, so read on.

••••••••••

• Washington State: No practice in Pullman yesterday – imagine, giving the football players a day off because school started – so very little in the way of news. The Cougars did hold walk-on tryouts yesterday, so there should be a few new faces on the practice field today. We’ll pass along anything of interest. … Not much in the way of stories today, though we do have this feature on Jared Karstetter from freelancer Howie Stalwick. … There is also this piece about Utah State’s Polynesian contingent, which includes former WSU recruit Al Lapuaho. The story even leads with him. I wonder, however, if the story would still be the same if Lapuaho had been approved by the NCAA eligibility center in a timely manner. If that had happened, he probably would have been one of the top two or three Cougar defensive tackles last season. … One observer has his thoughts about the Cougars after having attended many of the preseason practices. … And that’s about it of the free variety today, except this video from the WSU athletic department. It’s worth watching.

• Around the Pac-12: Wonder about the AP voters ? Wonder no more. … Washington: Bob Condotta talks with Steve Emtman, the best player on the best team in UW history. … Desmond Trufant is playing it cool this year. … Oregon State: Updating James Rodgers’ status . … Oregon: Once again with emphasis. Every time a player leaves a program, there is opportunity for others. … The same goes when someone is injured . … California: Nothing here. … Stanford: The Cardinal are selling lots of tickets. … Colorado: A walk-on wins the punting battle. … Utah: New coaches, new roles . … And a new player atop the depth chart at running back. … USC: The defensive depth chart is in flux. … UCLA: The quarterback that is expected to be the long-term answer has finally started practicing . … With struggles in the kicking game , the Bruins’ punter might be the answer. … Arizona State: An oft-injured defensive lineman is playing well. … Arizona: After last season, Trevin Wade is ready to start anew.

• That’s all for this morning. We’ll be back after practice today. Until then …
