Our faithful dog, Abby, supplier of ten thousand smiles, lay dead in her bed. And we had ordered her death. It was a death with dignity, which is more than some humans are allowed. That we had ordered Abby’s death seems inconceivable because she was with us for every milestone in our family’s history.
