Gookin Announces For City Council

  • DFO: I hear you are announcing your candidacy for City Council. Is that correct?
  • Dan Gookin: Yes. I have the paperwork done. But it’s not due until next week. I’ll turn it in then.

DFO: Didn’t you say after your loss to Deanna Goodlander that you weren’t going run again?

Dan Gookin: No, I said I’d rather cut off my own head. But I couldn’t find anyone else to do it. Lots of people kept asking me whether I was going to run again. People told me that they still had my sign in their garage to put out when I ran again. I believe we can do better in the city. I’d like to see some balance. It’s like the Idaho Legislature. You have all those Republicans down there. There is no debate. We need to hear both sides on the council.

  • DFO: Which position are you running for?
  • Dan Gookin: Seat 3 (Al Hassell’s current seat). I’ve heard he’s not going to run again.
  • DFO: Are you going to be part of a ticket?
  • Dan Gookin: No tickets. Last time, we weren’t part of a ticket either. You had 3 incumbents and 3 challengers. People just lined up.
  • DFO: What issue(s) most inspires you this time?
  • Dan Gookin: No. 1 is McEuen Field. Ron Edinger needs a second on his motion for a public vote. LCDC. People are still frustrated by LCDC. My issues I had last time. We can do more for transparency, accountability. I’d like to see more done to bring the jobs in here.
