Representative is in touch

With all the whining by recent letter writers over Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers not holding a town hall, I thought it was pretty funny to read an article in Politico recently that said, “Democrats were more likely to shun town halls, with 68 percent of them not holding any, compared to about 51 percent of House GOP who were avoiding them.”

Thankfully, McMorris Rodgers is not avoiding them. I just saw a newsletter update that she’ll be holding a town hall here in Spokane next week, just like she does every August. To the writers who say she hasn’t held one in years, better check your facts. I’ve attended several in the past, including one just last August.

Not only does Cathy reach out to all of her constituents through town halls, she regularly holds “coffee with Cathy” events throughout Eastern Washington in the 12 counties she represents, and in Washington, D.C., for people visiting our nation’s capital.

Thanks, Cathy, for keeping an open ear and listening to your constituents young and old, and from all walks of life.

Editor’s note: U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has scheduled a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N. Lincoln St.
