No on liquor initiative

I’m sure voters remember the two initiatives last year regarding the privatization of liquor sales, which were soundly defeated. Well, guess what? We have another one in November: I-1183. Like the others, this one is sponsored by big grocery chains and Costco. As much as I like Costco, I disagree with them on this issue. I applaud Rosauers for refusing to support the measure.

Underage drinking is a problem already. Now supporters want to add to the numbers. Legal-age friends and relatives could be persuaded to get liquor at the store down the street because it is much more convenient for them.

Here’s one more fact: The measure would create a 27 percent tax on liquor sales. Makes you wonder who is benefiting from this. Let’s gouge the public one more time. Maybe they won’t notice.
