WSU about to take on Idaho
COUGARS
We spent quite awhile this morning waiting for a call from the new football coach, but it never came. So now, as we prepare to cover tonight’s basketball game in the Cowan Spectrum on the University of Idaho campus, we’re waiting again. Just call me Vladimir. Or Estragon if you prefer. Read on.

• As I sit and peruse Idaho’s statistics, I am hit by how up-and-down the Vandals’ season has been. Their first game came at Long Beach State, a team WSU fans are familiar with after last season’s NIT game. In that one UI played well, and fell 69-61. They also handled Montana State at home 76-67. But four days later they lost to Eastern Washington 73-66 here in a game they trailed by 14 at halftime. … OK, had to step away and talk with Leach, so that’s taken care of. Now back to basketball. … D.J. Shelton’s indefinite suspension has a definitive end date. Tonight. He’s back in uniform. But Faisal Aden (concussion) is still out as is Mike Ladd (thumb) and Abe Lodwick (foot). Ladd’s thumb is healing slowly and it’s still not known when he’ll be back. I guess the same can be said for the others as well. … That’s about what I have tonight, as we’re getting closer to game time so I have to get ready.

• As usual, we’ll be on Twitter with our thoughts. And then we’ll be back after we get our story written for tomorrow’s paper. Until then …
