Why a special session?
Your headline story (“State budget deal elusive,” Dec. 9) makes me want to scream! So Gov. Gregoire thought it unlikely the Legislature would resolve the $2 billion budget problem during their special session. Then why were they there? We shouldn’t be paying for a “special session.”
At a time when Americans’ hostility toward members of Congress is at a record high, when Congress’ job approval rating has fallen to a record low, why would our governor and legislators choose a page from their playbook, wasting time and our money meeting without the promise of solving anything!
The governor says it will still be valuable because legislators will have a head start on budget discussions when the regular session begins in January. What a load of baloney! Is there any good reason for all of them to occupy Olympia? You can’t put lipstick on these pigs!
