Rate hike a done deal

How appropriate to find Washington’s Utilities and Transportation Commission approving Avista’s most recent rate increase in the Dec. 17 paper. Yes, once again, it’s business as usual concerning this three-member commission and Avista.

I attended, and spoke at, the meeting they had here in Spokane Valley. When the head of the commission misspoke and said they were “here today because they had to be” he corrected himself, but it was evident the decision had already been made. As part of the agreement, Avista will not be able to seek another rate increase until April 2012. Wow, a whole three months before this whole song and dance team can perform again.

Does anyone else find this as absurd as I do? This commission and its association with Avista has to be investigated. Too many people and businesses continue to suffer by these people’s decision in the name of corporate greed.
