County Cuts School Recycling Program

The Kootenai County Board of Commissioners has decided not to renew the county’s recycling contracts with the Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Lakeland school districts. The current contracts expire on June 1. The county’s Solid Waste Department now subsidizes the school recycling program at an approximate cost of $170,000 per year. Also, the launching of single stream recycling in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and surrounding areas has dramatically cut the amount of recycling material dropped off at the school sites.
