Task force reverses itself, says ISP should keep its share of gas taxes

Add Spokesman-Review on Google

The legislative task force on alternative funding for ISP and state parks reversed itself today, after voting two weeks ago to propose a $10 vehicle registration fee increase to make up the Idaho State Police’s lost funding when it loses gas tax funds. Now, the task force instead is backing a different move: Letting ISP keep its share of gas taxes permanently. That means no fee increase. The change of course came on a 6-1 vote at the task force’s late-afternoon meeting today. The panel already had endorsed a permanent restoration of the portion of gas taxes going to parks for state trails programs.
