Up-close view reveals need
I often substitute teach for the Central Valley School District. Before becoming a sub, I do not know if I would have voted yes for the bond. After having taught for months at a time in two of the schools up for renovation, I will tell you that voting yes is the right and responsible thing to do for our children.
Like all taxpayers, I expect my tax dollars to be used responsively. We all know that is quite often not the case.
If you feel a need to shout NO NEW TAXES, this is not the place. It is easy to drive by a school building and see that all is well. It is a much different experience to be inside trying to teach (and learn) in classrooms with no walls separating your class from the neighboring classes; or trying to carry on class with the smell of an old boiler that functions properly most of the time (temperatures in the 90s one day – quite the opposite the next).
The list could certainly go on. It is definitely time to make some radical changes in these buildings, now, before safety becomes an issue as well.
