Ad buys super embarrassing
As owner and principal of a small Spokane-based advertising and marketing firm operating in a very challenging Pacific Northwest business economy, I should probably be super excited that all of Fox Television’s 68 30-second Super Bowl ad spots quickly sold out at a per-ad cost of $3 million each.
I’m not! In fact, I’m quite embarrassed and appalled that these advertisers could actually cough up a whopping $204 million in times of record-high unemployment with people being extremely challenged to only just basically house, feed and clothe themselves and their families.
Meanwhile, the rich just seem to be getting richer, the poor poorer and the middle class continually eliminated.
Yet many millions of people worldwide will gather around television sets on Sunday to watch wealthy athletes bang themselves around a football field for a few hours in front of a large stadium audience who bought very expensive tickets to sit in a very expensive and glitzy stadium and buy very expensive food and drinks to watch.
Gee, maybe that’s a wise advertising expense after all. Think I’ll go snowshoeing or hiking instead.
