Gun show rules lax

Several weeks ago, a friend took his grandson to the Spokane Gun Show. He told me that private individuals were selling a wide variety of handguns to anyone who could come up with the selling price. This is a gun sale with no registration, no mental evaluation or background check and no waiting period.

This means that any nutcase with an evil agenda could walk out the door with a Glock similar to the one used by Mr. Loughner of Tucson, Ariz., without anyone being the wiser.

I talked with a local police officer who told me: “Crazy as it sounds, your friend’s account of gun show sales is true.”

One would think that if our elected officials were really concerned about our welfare, they would all be working hard to close this loophole.
