House suspends rules to honor Reagan
The House has suspended its rules this morning to take up HP 2, a proclamation honoring the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth and his accomplishments. Lawmakers said the move comes because today is the anniversary, to allow both the House and Senate to take the measure up today. House Speaker Lawerence Denney is the lead sponsor of the proclamation; cosponsors include Senate President Pro-Tem Brent Hill and Reps. Linden Bateman and Stephen Hartgen. Here, Bateman introduces the resolution in the House; he recalled visiting East Germany before Reagan’s famous declaration calling for the Berlin wall to be torn down. “Through his inspiration and through his peacemaking efforts, he helped indeed bring that wall down,” Bateman told the House.
