Special license plate bill sponsor says it’s a ‘voluntary revenue enhancement’

Rep. Joe Palmer, R-Meridian, told the House he was bringing it a rare opportunity this morning: “A voluntary revenue enhancement.” The bill in question is HB 45, creating an aviation specialty license plate. Proceeds would go to the Idaho Aviation Foundation to maintain access to back-country airstrips, but it also would generate some funds for the Idaho Transportation Department, which Palmer said everyone knows needs more money. The bill passed on a 51-16 vote and now moves to the Senate.
