VanderSloot: ‘It’s fear of the unknown’

Frank VanderSloot, CEO of Melaleuca Inc. in Idaho Falls, spoke in favor of the Luna school reform plan. He displayed a graph showing his company’s revenues going up. “There’s a reason for our continued growth and success in a time when all other companies are struggling,” he said: Pay for performance. VanderSloot said it’s something he favors in all areas. “People who’ve never been measured before are fearful,” he told lawmakers. “It’s fear of the unknown.”

VanderSloot, who has run full-page newspaper ads throughout the state attacking “union bosses” and touting the Luna plan, said, “The opposition to this bill has only just begun. It’ll get harder. Please, we ask you, have the courage to pass this legislation for the benefit of our kids.” He added, “We need to press forward and implement things and then work out the rough spots.”
