Magazines need study

A recent article stated a Republican chairperson in D.C. refused to allow time for his committee to discuss availability of large-capacity magazines for handguns as petitioned by 16 committee Democrats. Whatever side of the fence one sits on regarding Tucson, the technology that made it possible to harm so many is off the table. No middle ground.

We have guns at home. Yes, they are tools. They are useless for anything other than to harm. It makes them a very different tool. We don’t glorify them. They don’t define us.

Our guns are not impressive but are adequate protection. We don’t find a need to obtain more devastating power to counter impending attack. Obama hasn’t even hinted of any new gun restrictions. Only since Tucson have there been questions about the wisdom of large magazines.

A most perverse use of the word terrorism was in a letter last Sunday. “Anti-gun terrorists” was the term used. I don’t know about Mr. Stone, but I’ll take my chances with an unarmed terrorist every time. My stepson is a deputy sheriff.

He’s always been concerned he might be overmatched on the streets.

It’s important to check in on reality (facts?) occasionally.
